Join our friendly and inclusive volunteer team at Repair Café Willowdale! We host events offering free, volunteer-led repairs of items from the community, including clothes, home goods, tech, and more - helping to promote sustainability and reduce waste.

We're looking for volunteers of all skill levels, from expert fixers to event helpers. Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbors, give back to the community, and be part of something exciting. Although we're a new organization (est. 2025), we've received fantastic feedback from both volunteers and visitors already.

FAQs

1. What types of volunteers do you need?

Our greatest ongoing need is for fixers (of all skill levels) and general event support volunteers. Please see our Volunteer Intake Form for a better idea of volunteer roles we're looking to fill.

2. What kind of training and support do event volunteers receive?

Before the event: Volunteers will have opportunities to ask questions and get event-specific details via remote video calls, email, or WhatsApp.

On the day of the event: Volunteers will receive a basic orientation and have support from their team or a lead volunteer.

For fixers: Fixer volunteers are encouraged to come with some prior knowledge of their repair category (e.g., electronics, sewing, etc.), but they'll also have opportunities to collaborate and learn from their fellow fixers during the event. Additionally, before each event, fixer volunteers will have the chance to connect with their Fixer Team to discuss any specific needs, such as which tools and supplies to bring.

3. Is there a minimum commitment required to volunteer?

There is no strict minimum commitment. Whether you can volunteer for a few hours or a few events a year, your support is valuable and appreciated. We do ask that if you sign up for a shift at an event, you do your best to stay for your whole shift.

4. Do I need to live in Willowdale to volunteer?

No! While we're based in Willowdale, we welcome volunteers from anywhere.

5. How often do Repair Café Willowdale events take place?

We're aiming to have an event at least every other month. You can check our Events page for our current announced schedule.

6. How do RCW volunteers communicate?

Our main communication channel is WhatsApp, with event updates and notices also sent by email, and periodic Zoom meetings prior to events.

7. Do you accept volunteers who need accommodations?

Absolutely! Please let us know when you sign up, and we'll do our best to support your needs.

8. Can you track my volunteer hours?

Yes, we can track and report your hours for school or other purposes. Just let us know in advance.
